Musical Style

from heavy r&b to catchy pop tunes to soft ballads

Rain has a low, husky voice that blends very well with his trademark R&B and pop songs. They usually feature mid-tempto to slick, quick beats (I'm Coming) and catchy hooks that are pleasing to the ears. However, his voice seems to have difficulty reaching = higher notes and may sound a bit pitchy doing so (But I Love You). Rain has cited American and Western influences such as Michael Jackson and Usher, which is all well in preparation for his North American debut.

Rain's albums always sport a wide variety of different musical styles. Some tracks are fast and great to dance to (It's Raining), while some are soft and relaxing, and can even be classified as ballads (Handshake). Some are full of energy, while some are raw with emotion. His lyrics mainly talk of love and relationships — whether they be familial, frienship, or romantic — as well as self-reflections. In a few songs, Rain might throw in a couple of lines in English. Rain has even recorded some songs fully in English (Sad Tango)! As English isn't his first language, hints of his (now fading, thanks to numerous English lessons) East-Asian accent can be heard.
